Chair MESVAL organises the citizen education on emergencies in Valencian districts

Universitat de València Chair MESVAL commenced the courses on emergencies for citizens from Valencian districts. The 'València + Segura' Plan commenced education for La Torre neighbours, one of the most affected places by the DANA on 29 October. Students of Faculty of Economics participated in the courses.

MESVAL Chairleads the'València + Segura' Planeducational actions on emergencies for citizens. After the education event in July at schools and highschools from València and its municipalities, which will keep going for the following months, the Chair lead by professorJosé Manuel Pastoris taking on the districts now.

The Chair has istalled tents in different districts and areas to inform the inhabitants of the schedule and place fo the next informative sessions about action protocol that are basic and accessible to prevent and respond to emergency situatios like the DANA of last October.

Degree and Master's Degree students atFaculty of Economics, coordinated by Dean Delegate of Students Rocío Navarro and Coordinator ofFaculty Student Representative Association (AdR)Gloria Aronson participate in the public recepion of these stands by providing flyers and showcasing basic emergency kit elements as well as incribing people to the education sessions and courses for the coming months.

These courses will instruct skils and knowledge that are key against emergencies. Practical advise on each different type of emergencies such as fires, blackouts and metherological phenomena-induced floods will also be provided.

The emergency kit that is necessary for facing such event will be throroughly explained.

The Plan works on 10 basic and well-defined goals, aiming to educate citizens, raise awareness and develop a prevention culture, autoprotection and co-responsibility. Those goals are: autoprotection culture, community corresponsibility, multirisk education, emergency respond abilities, alert interpretation, local risk awareness, practical tools, emergency service pressure relief and protocol dissemination.

The 'València + Segura' Plan has been build on an inclusive strategy, adapted for vulnerable collective and profile-specific methodologies. The programme adapts its content, format, method and canal to reach as many people as possible, also thanks to companies, social entities and neighbour associations —particulartly in affected districs of the DANA. In-persos direct and undirect education is provided for the citizen in close and adapted spaces.

First, children and young people will receive their education through their teachers and the Local Police and elder people will receive it through the Popular University and the CMAPM activity centres. People with disabilities will receive education by associations and occupational centres as well as neighbour associations, consume associtions, etc. The staff from 538 educational centres, 51 elderly centres, 20 disability associations, 31 facilites of Popular University, 6 district Mayor Offices and 6 daycare centres will be instructed in this matter.

Additionaly, the Plan is already interacting with citizens with up to 4 stands installed in strategic location of the city and using awareness campaings in different formats and platforms to secure learning (traditional and digital messaging, prints, elements on the street, digital content and specific educational sessions for companies, public workers, police and other collectives. Over 100 people of different profiles (teachers, firefighters and police agents) will be in charge of education.

Chair MESVAL will receive a subsidy of 60,000 € to develop the sustainable economic model of the city by theValència City Hall.

They aim to change the economic model according to the diversity of the economic and social agents, with the perspective of governance, innovation and economic, social and enironmental sustainability. This subsidy will focus on DANA-related aspects and effects.
