Julio Fernández Garrido (Valencia, 1966), nurse, anthropologist and Doctor in Social Anthropology, he is professor of the Department of Nursery since 1992. After few years in which he combined his work as Professor with hospital activity in the field of emergencies (Hospital Clínico Universitario of Valencia) and geriatrics later (Residencia Pública de Silla), he definetely linkde his professional career to teaching and research at the UV. He is coordinator of the module ‘Curas de Salud” in the Master ‘s Degree in Social and Health Care in Dependency of the Universitat de València.
His already extensive teaching experience is complemented by a rich research activity (author of books, numerous book chapters of international dissemination, scientific articles, more of 50 lectures and scientific conference papers and research projects funded by different Institutions (F.I.S.S, I.V.I.I, I.M.P.I.V.A, Leonardo da Vinci and others), which has resulted in research on the factors that affect quality life over different circumstances of the life cycle (chronicity, fragility, and dependence) and in the anthropology of healing.
Fernández has been collaborating sistematically with different institutions and associations of national and international nature for the promotion and research of nursery teaching. All this lead him to become member of the National Committee of Experts for the design of the Specialisations of Nursery, organised by the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education. Currently, he occupies the post of Secretary of the National Conference of Nursery Deans, and he also is Executive Chairperson for the European Region of ALADEFE (Latin American Association of Nursery Schools and Faculties).
