I believe in Ortega-y-Gasset's mission of the University: Research, Teach, and Transfer.

I feel very fortunate for what I have received as a student first and now as a researcher and teacher, and try to give something back (“For it is in giving that we receive. –St. Francis of Assisi).

My research normally goes under the radar of the media, but sometimes it gets spotted. My most cited paper on social media was cited by Wikipedia and a paper on high-speed railways and trade got some attention from the local press. My paper on the role of migrant's job skills caught the eye of the press in the US. I rarely get asked to participate in public debates in the press or TV, but I do what I can on those few occasions.

I tend to share interesting research (even if it's my own) and personal views on current events on social media. I'm a regular contributor to several specialized economics blogs in Spain. Check out my blog summarazing my posts [here].

I have participated in non-academic and policy conferences sharing my research. High times when I participated in a General Assembly of the UN in Vienna, and Arbitration Conferences in Fiji and Papua New Guinea (thanks to the ADB for making this possible!). I've been told that my research contributed to the accession of these countries to the New York Convention on Arbitration!
