Enrique V. García-España Monsonís Universitat de València |
Short biography
Enrique García-España Monsonís was born in Valencia (Spain) on 28 July 1955. He obtained his degree in Chemistry from the University of Valencia in June 1977. After working for a period in private industry, he returned to the University and obtained his PhD degree in 1984. Subsequently, he did his Postdoctoral stay in the group of Professor Piero Paoletti at the University of Florence, between November 1984 and January 1986. In the same year he obtained a position as Assistant Professor at the University of Valencia and became leader of the research group in Supramolecular Chemistry. Since November 2000 he has been full Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Valencia.
His research interests cover a broad spectrum: the design and synthesis of enzyme mimetics, the preparation of probes for the recognition of species with environmental or biomedical relevance, the modification of nanoparticles and the development of new therapeutic agents.
With an h-index of 48, he has co-authored 330 scientific publications accumulating more than 8700 citations. In 2010 he was awarded the Inorganic Chemistry Prize of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (RSEQ). His research has led to an international patent on the antioxidant activity of metal complexes of a family of synthetic polyazamacrocycles (WO2011/033163 A2). He also holds a national patent on a family of cyclic polyamines with anti-parasitic activity (P201132035, granted in January 2012 and extended as European patent PCT/ES2012/070866).
He is also co-author of a patent on the use of pyrazole-derived esters and corresponding salts for the treatment of Chagas disease and leishmaniasis (WO 2016/038238 International patent PCT/ES2015/070658).
