Vowels and Consonants

Words in RP with /au/ are pronounced in several ways. This speaker has two different realizations of /au/  in the words cow, down /dɑʊn/ and town /tɑːn/ and in 7, about /bəʊt/. The speaker's pronunciation is similar to RP in the STRUT set.

Like Scottish, this variety of English is rhotic. No “h-dropping” in general. However, in example 2, the “h” is missing as it is a grammatical word in rapid speech.  The voiced flapped "t" pronunciation of “t” in butter and water is similar to the American pronunciation.
