Project Activities and Timeline

The CITI-SCIENCE project is structured into six work packages (WPs) over a three-year period. Here’s an overview of our key activities:

Work Packages

WP1: Development of a CS Typology

Description: Systematic analyses of current taxonomies to classify CS projects and development of a novel typology accounting for participant diversity and representativeness.

Key Tasks: - Systematic analysis of the state-of-the-art of current CS taxonomies - Development of a focus-group with CS projects participants - Development of a CS typology that accounts for diversity and representativeness

WP2: Case Studies and Qualitative Analysis

Description: Strategic selection of CS projects in seven healthcare research areas and semi-structured interviews with key informants.

Key Tasks: - Design of a selection strategy and interview guide - Conducting interviews with key professionals and non-professionals - Interview transcription and qualitative content analysis - Enrichment of data with secondary information

WP3: Choice-based Conjoint Analysis

Description: Design, implementation, and testing of a choice-based conjoint analysis to measure preferences for different job-related attributes in CS projects.

Key Tasks: - Selection of attribute bundles defining CS projects - Design of a choice-set of CS projects - Implementation on an online survey platform - Pilot testing with professionals and non-professionals

WP4: Large-scale Survey of Biomedical Scientists

Description: Survey of biomedical scientists to understand their engagement with citizen science.

Key Tasks: - Identification of relevant research fields - Building and cleaning the dataset - Designing and testing the questionnaire - Survey administration and data analysis

WP5: Large-scale Survey of Non-professional Participants

Description: Survey of non-professionals to understand their engagement with citizen science.

Key Tasks: - Identification of non-professional stakeholders - Construction of the dataset - Design and testing of the questionnaire - Survey administration and data analysis

WP6: Coordination and Dissemination

Description: Tasks to ensure efficient project operation and dissemination of results.

Key Tasks: - Project website and multimedia materials - Organization of workshops with stakeholders - Project coordination and monitoring - Dissemination of results to academic and non-academic audiences

Project Timeline

The project activities are distributed over a 3-year period (2025-2028):

  • Year 1: Focus on WP1 (CS typology), beginning of WP3 (conjoint analysis design) and WP6 (coordination)
  • Year 2: Completion of WP3, focus on WP2 (case studies), beginning of WP4 and WP5 (surveys)
  • Year 3: Completion of WP4 and WP5 (surveys), continued WP6 (dissemination)
