“Genius and psychosis in E. A. Poe: new interdisciplinary perspectives”

Cartel oficialAs a tribute to the North American author Edgar Allan Poe in the Bicentennial of his birth (1809-1849), the Department of English and German Philology at the Universitat de València is organising an International Conference to approach this controversial as well as worldwide admired literary figure from a 21st C. perspective.

The main objective is to offer and share opinions from different contemporary perspectives about his life and innovative literary work, as well as his influence on diverse artistic expressions such as cinema, music, arts and science. Therefore, proposals (papers or osters) may cover not only literary and linguistic topics, but also other cultural expressions related or based on Poe's work and/or life:


1.- Literary and/or Linguistic Studies (comparative or not).
2.- Literature and Translation: Contrastive Aspects.
3.- Poe: Cinema, Music, Arts and Science.
4.- Stylistic, Cognitive and Genre Studies (Feminisms).
5.- Psychological and Clinical Aspects in Poe.
6.- Poe and his Influence on the Literary Genres.

Abstracts (in Spanish and English) should be a maximum of 500 words in length. 4 key words should be specified as well as a basic bibliography. Please indicate the topic (1-6) in which you wish your paper to be included.


Abstracts delivery deadline: September 1st, 2009. Acceptance: before October 1st. Registration deadline: from July 1st to November 20th, 2009. (Before October 1st -100 euros; before November 1st-110 euros, before December 2nd-120 euros). PhD.

Students (before October 15th- 80 euros, after October 15th-90 euros)

Selected papers will be published after the conference.
Official languages of the symposium will be English and Spanish.
