Within the framework of the 1st Experts Conference of Climate Change and Territory in the Iberian Mediterranean, on Thursday morning, 30 January has taken -among others- the coference ‘La intensificación del ciclo hidrológico: el agua por exceso, el agua por defecto’ (The intensification of the hydrological cycle: excess water, by defect water’. In it they have presented the evidences that expose how climate change is accelerating and intensifying the hydrological cycle, surpassing the maximum threshold, both in floods and droughts.

At the same time, it was also established the relation between floods and droughts, as two facets of the same problem. According to the possible solutions tackled in the conference, they support the recovery of balance adapting the solutions based in nature, as much as possible.

In this panel it was recommended to give basins of fluvial mobility territory, that allow the river the lamination of flood peaks, the decrease of energy, the hydric recharge of natural storage and the reorganisation of draining. They also advised the increasing of citizen resilience, stimulating the auto-protection through education programmes and participation, that help the population to know the territory where they live and accept the adaptation measures to climate change.

The participants of this panel discussion were Ana Camarasa, Natalia Limones, Alfredo Ollero, José Damián Ruiz and Pablo Giménez Font .
