In the third conference of experts, the issue of desertification and the loss of vitality of the territory was discussed, as a consequence of the exploitation of natural resources (soil, water, biodiversity) which exceeds its regeneration capacity.
It is a problem of the arid areas (which occupy 75% of our country), because natures “works” slower and, as a consequence, degradation is persistent and sometimes, irreversible. For this reason, in desertification (which is not the advance of the desert), prevention strategies must prevail.
Desertification is a complex issue which involves several processes, one of which is erosion: water erosion. A poor land management leads to desertification.
In this conference participated Jaime Martínez Valderrama, Estela Nadal, Victor Castillo, José Alfonso Gómez y Susana Bautista.
