Another of the panel discussions that took place in the ‘1st Conference of experts. Climate Change and Territory in the Iberian Mediterranean’ was ‘Management of water resources (use, demand, ownership, territorial areas, hydraulic work and other actuations)’. In the context of climate change, it is fundamental to guarantee the proper functioning of aquatic ecosystems that provide the water needed in enough quantity and quality.

In this sense, an efficient and sustainable water use should be promoted in the agricultural, urban and industrial sectors. Demands on available resources must be adjusted and social distribution of water must be guaranteed. On the other hand, in coastal regions, alternative resources such as the desalination or reuse of regenerated wastewater must be used to reduce the pressure on water bodies. Moreover, they underlined the importance of solutions based on nature that improve the management of the water cycle and address hydroclimatic risks.

The last recommendation was based on strengthening water governance that incorporates a comprehensive view of the water cycle and safeguards both quality and quantity.

The participants of this panel discussion were Anna Ribas, David Saurí, Núria Hernández, Féliz Francés, Manuel Pulido, Celso Garcia and Albert Llausás.
