Joan Romero, Emeritus full-time university professor of Human Geography of the Universitat de València will offer the inaugural conference of the 42th edition of the Summer University of Gandia (UEG) with the title ‘El momento de Europa’. The act will take place in the Casa de la Marquesa from the Safor capital, at 7:30pm, and is of free entry until completing the space.

Romero received the Extraordinary Licensure Award in 1977 and the Extraordinary Doctorate Award in 1983, he has been a professor in the Universitat de València ever since he started his responsibility of teaching in 1980. Ever since then, he has been a professor in the degrees of Geography, History, Political and Administration Sciences, and Journalism.

He currently teaches the subject ‘Geopolitics, globalization and national issues’ in the Political and Administration Sciences degree, and participates as professor in the master from the Department of Geography Environmental and Territorial Management Techniques, as well as in the master New Journalism, Political Communication and Knowledge Society.

During the last years, he has centred his teaching and research activity in the geographic-political field, public policies, the structure of the State and the new territorial governance forms in Spain and Europe.

He has dedicated a special attention to transfer and high dissemination, teaching many conferences and publishing regularly in communication media about related aspects with his specialisation.

He has also had institutional posts: he was general director of the Universities of the the Government of the Valencian Community (1983), director of the Valencian headquarters of the UIMP (1990 y 1991), general technical manager of the Ministry of Education and Science (1985-1987) and counsellor of Education and Science of the the Government of the Valencian Community (1993-1995).
