The industrial engineer Luis Merelo i Mas (València, 1907-1970). He studied industrial engineering in Barcelona between 1922 and 1927, and he became the youngest industrial engineer of the country.  

He participated in projects such as the underground line that arrives to the airport of Valencia, the construction of the maritime port in L’Azud de l’Or, he made navigation in the Turia feasible (up to Monteolivete) and he worked as an engineer in La Maquinista Valenciana between 1941-1955. When the Spanish Civil War ended, he participated in the reconstruction of the metallic structure of the warehouses of Altos Hornos del Mediterráneo in Sagunto, as part of the technical staff of Sidelurgia del Mediterráneo. In 1955, he became county council member and deputy mayor with Adolfo Rincón de Arellano García.

Structo ingenieros is an engineering company founded by Merelo i Mas in 1940, which today still has photo albums of several of his projects.

In 2016, the Colegio de Ingenieros Industriales de la Comunidad Valenciana created the Merelo i Mas Awards.

The Demetrio Ribes Chair has collaborated in the digitalisation and cataloguing of its collection, due to its relevance and connection to the La Maquinista Valenciana Archive.
