Course I: An introduction to structural equations modeling

Course Description
This seminar has three main goals: first, to familiarize students with structural equations modelling; second, to facilitate the comprehension of the methodological aspects of scientific articles that use structural equations; and third, to provide a first basis tp researchers who plan to use structural equations in their future investigations. By the end of the seminar, students will be familiar with the following concepts and tools:
- Conceptual model and statistical model;
- Phenomenon, construct and latent variable.
- Measurement model;
- Structural model; and,
- Fit Indices
Pre-requisites
The pre-requisites for enrolling in this course are: advanced knowledge in multiple linear regression, basic knowledge in measurement and basic experience with AMOS (use the tutorial for two or three hours prior top the seminar).
Course outline
Session 1 (Monday): Reality, theory and structural models:
- From theory to reality;
- Specification of structural models;
- Fit Indices
- Structural equations.
Session 2 (Tuesday): Concepts, tools and measurement models:
- Phenomena and measurement;
- Specification of measurement models;
- Validation of measurement instruments;
- Estimation of measurement models.
Session 3 (Wednesday): Analysis with AMOS:
- Evaluation of structural models;
- Comparison of models;
- Mediation with AMOS;
- Moderation with AMOS.
Professor Claude Obadia
Claude Obadia is professor at the Novancia Business School Paris, Paris (FRANCE). He holds a H.D.R. in International Business from University Jean Moulin (Lyon, France), a Ph.D. in International Marketing and a Master of Research in Marketing from La Sorbonne, University of Paris I (Paris, France), and a M.Sc. in management from Boston University, Boston, USA. Professor Obadia has published in many top journals in business, marketing and management such as the Journal of Business Research, the International Marketing Review, Industrial Marketing Management and the European Journal of Marketing, among others. Among the awards received we can outline the award for Outstanding Paper in International Marketing from the Annual Conference Marketing Management Association (Chicago, USA, 2009), the IMR Award for the Best Paper in International Marketing in the 34th European International Business Academy (EIBA) Conference (Tallinn, Estonia, 2008) and the Best Paper in Retailing Award from the Marketing Management Association Spring Conference (Chicago, USA, 2008 From 2005 to 2010 Professor Obadia was associate Professor at Novancia, Paris; from 2000 to 2012 he was been a visiting professor at Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration (Austria), University of Northern Colorado (USA), ESCP Europe (France) and at the MIB School of Management from the University of Trieste (Italy).
