
University of Almeria hosted a congress ¨Vivienda y Economía Social¨ from April 23 to 25. It was specilized discussion forum that has brought together experts from the legal, academic, and social sectors to explore sustainable housing solutions. The event was held in Salón de Grados in the CITE-V building, and it focused on alternatives models of the cooperation and collaboration between public and private, to guarantee the rights to housing.
Notable participation by Aula Empresocial and the AEMES Group
Among the prominent speakers, the participation of Pilar Alguacil, professor of Financial and Tax Law at the University of Valencia, member of the AEMES research group, and co-director of the Aula Empresocial. Alguacil participated in the roundtable discussion on Friday, April 24, dedicated to “Housing cooperatives based on right-of-use agreements and co-housing.” There, she shared her expert perspective on these models of collective ownership, which are gaining prominence as an alternative to the traditional market.
The presence of Dr. Alguacil during the congress is part of the outreach activities for the research project «La fiscalitat del capital des de la perspectiva de la justícia tributària (FISCAP) — CIAICO/2023/063», which is funded by the Conselleria d’Educació, Cultura i Universitats de la Generalitat Valenciana.
Organization and institutional support
The congress was organized by the Chair of Social Economy of University of Almeria under the academic direction of Carlos Vargas Vasserot and Miguel Ángel Luque Mateo. The initiative also received support from the Ministry of Science, Innovation, Universities and the State Research Agency through the TRANSFESS project.
