Immersive workshop to integrate sustainability, ethics and social impact in entrepreneurship, addressing governance, ESG and global challenges.

On Wednesday, 28 January 2026, at 09:00 the Online Workshop: Entrepreneurship, ethics and legitimacy in an ever-changing world will take place.

This workshop is designed as an immersive, high-value learning experience addressing one of the most pressing challenges faced by present entrepreneurship: how to create, sustain, and scale entrepreneurial initiatives that are not only economically viable but also ethically grounded and socially legitimate in a rapidly changing global environment.

In today’s entrepreneurial ecosystems, sustainability has evolved from a voluntary commitment to a core strategic imperative. Entrepreneurs and organisations are now expected to integrate sustainability holistically, balancing economic performance with ethical responsibility, social impact, and environmental management. This workshop explores how entrepreneurial initiatives can embed sustainability across the three interconnected dimensions of good governance, social responsibility, and environmental sustainability, strengthening their legitimacy and resilience over time.

From a governance perspective, the workshop will analyse how ethical leadership, transparency, accountability, and stakeholder engagement contribute to trust-building and institutional legitimacy. Participants will examine governance mechanisms that support responsible decision-making, mitigate ethical risks, and align entrepreneurial strategies with long-term sustainable objectives rather than short-term gains.

The social dimension will focus on the role of entrepreneurship in addressing societal challenges, promoting inclusive growth, and creating shared value. Special attention will be given to labour practices, equality, diversity, community engagement, and the broader social responsibilities of entrepreneurial ventures, particularly SMEs and social enterprises operating close to their stakeholders and local territories.

The environmental dimension will address how entrepreneurial activity can contribute to environmental sustainability through responsible resource management, innovation, and the development of environmentally conscious business models. The workshop will explore the ethical implications of environmental decision-making, the integration of environmental criteria into strategic choices, and the growing expectations from regulators, investors, and society regarding environmental performance.

The workshop adopts an interactive and applied methodology, combining conceptual frameworks from entrepreneurship, ethics, and sustainability, with real-world cases, group discussions, and guided reflection.

Key learning dimensions include:

  • Entrepreneurship in turbulent and uncertain environments
  • Ethics as a strategic resource rather than a compliance requirement
  • Organisational legitimacy, reputation, and stakeholder management
  • Ethical dilemmas in entrepreneurial decision-making
  • Sustainable entrepreneurship in volatile and uncertain environments
  • Integrating ESG dimensions into entrepreneurial decision-making

The Workshop is open to Doctoral Students, Postdoctoral Researchers, and Junior Professors from any university of the FORTHEM Alliance up to 8 years after completing their PhD.
