On May 13 and 14, UV will host various events aimed at deepening democratic values and combating disinformation.

The University of Valencia is participating in Democracy Week 2026, an international initiative organized by FORTHEM aimed at promoting knowledge about democracy, human rights and freedom of expression, as well as fostering critical thinking and student participation in the defense of democratic values.

In this context, on May 13, the University of Valencia will host two sessions open to the public at Espai Vives as part of a series of debates on the meaning of democracy and the current quality of this system. At 13:00, an in-person lecture will take place focusing on responsible political leadership and citizen evaluation, and at 17:00, a hybrid session will be held dedicated to the analysis of the Spanish Transition (1975–1978) and the construction of the concept of democracy from a historical and discursive perspective.

On May 14, an in-person workshop will also be held at Espai Vives for University of Valencia students, led by Professor Héctor Hernández Gassó, focusing on identifying and preventing disinformation on social media. Through real and recent examples, topics such as cognitive biases, emotional manipulation and practical strategies for informed decision-making will be addressed. As a complementary activity, from May 2 until the date of the workshop, an online initiative organized by students is being carried out, combining video interviews, questionnaires and a survey open to students from the University of Valencia and the FORTHEM alliance; the results will be briefly shared during the workshop.

These activities provide an excellent opportunity to reflect, debate and actively participate in the promotion of democratic values within the university environment.
