The Doctoral Studies Programme in Contemporary Philosophical Thought aims to achieve the advance training in research techniques and the deepening in the thematic and historical knowledge of Philosophy.
Its goals are: increase and deepen the knowledge of Philosophy, both in its established disciplines and current thematic and in dialogue with the authors and specific problems of its tradition.
Overall goals
- Deep knowledge of modernity and the present-time based on its roots in the history of thought.
- Deep knowledge of the main contemporary problems and debates in the different areas of philosophy.
- Development of a capacity for critical thinking about the present-time and its problems on the base of conceptual resources coming from philosophy and its history.
- Deep comprehension of the relationships and conflicts between different areas of culture and thinking: philosophy, science, right, religion, politics, literature, etc.
- Capacity to explore and treat the philosophical problems that are involved in non-philosophic areas of culture: history, art, formal sciences, empirical sciences, right, etc.
- Development of a capacity for identifying valid and invalid argumentation methods and improving the skills to argue correctly and efficiently.
- Deep comprehension of the dialectic involved in different philosophical matters, with the aim of identifying the problematic points and its treatment perspectives and eventual solution.
Addressed to
a) Holders of a Master’s Degree, or other degree of equivalent level, issued by an institution within the European Higher Education Area.
b) Holders of a degree obtained according to foreign educational systems, without the need of its accreditation, after verification by the university that it certifies a level of training that is equivalent to the official Spanish qualification of Master’s Degree and confers the access to doctoral studies in its issuance country. This admission does not imply, in any case, the accreditation of the previous degree or its recognition for other purposes different to the access to Doctoral Studies.
c) Those who meet any of the following conditions may also have access to the research period:
– To have passed 60 credits included in one or more University Master’s Degrees.
– To hold a Diploma of Advances Studies, obtained in accordance with the Royal Decree 778/1998, of 30 Abril, or having reached the research competence governed by the Royal Decree 185/1985, of 23 January.
– To hold an Undergraduate Degree whose duration is at least of 300 credits, according to the rules of Community Law.
– Students who adjust to these requirements will be accepted in the doctoral programme. Specific admission requirements:
a) To have studied and passed the studies leading to the title of Master's Degree in Contemporary Philosophical Thought of the Universitat de València.
b) In any other case, the Coordinating Committee of the Doctoral Programme will consider if the studies taken are equivalent to those required for accessing to the research period of this programme and, if applicable, if the student is required to take any module or curriculum of the Master’s Degree in Contemporary Philosophical Thought.
The body responsible for the admission of students is the Doctoral Studies Academic Committee (CCD), in accordance with the Articles 30 and 35 of the Regulations on the Official Postgraduates Studies of the Universitat de València.
