The programme has 6 compulsory activities which are design to be compatible and complementary to the thesis project that has to be developed in a relatively brief period. To those activities we can add the training staysthe student can carry out during the doctoral period and which will be registered in the Personalised Activities Document (see “Mobility Programmes” section).
ACTIVITY 1: Active attendance at seminars and conferences
TYPE: Compulsory
NUMBER OF HOURS: 30
DESCRIPTION:
The Academic Committee of the Doctoral Program (CAPD) will develop and publish through network means (e.g., Virtual Classroom) a list of seminars held by it or by other entities, at which students have to attend according to the following dedication: for full-time students, 10 annual hours during three years; for part-time students, 6 annual hours during five years. Each attendance computes at the rate of one hour per seminar or conference.

ASSESSMENT:
Students will have certification sheet signed by the lecturer. Annually, students will present to the CADP a brief report on the seminars they have attended, indicating the issues raised by them and the effect on their training. This report will append the attendance sheets.
ACTIVITY 2: Writing a scientific manuscript
TYPE: Compulsory
NUMBER OF HOURS: 100
DESCRIPTION:
Within 30 months since the admission (36 in the case of part-time position), students will write a scientific manuscript on results obtained in the research leading to their doctoral thesis. The manuscript may have multiple authors but in this case the student is the first author. The manuscript is written in English and with the appropriate style to be submitted to a SCI journal. In case of it has been submitted for publication and assessed, it may be attached to the assessment.

ASSESSMENT:
The CAPD will assess the manuscript in its substantive and formal aspects, for which, if necessary, will count with the assistance of specialists. The CAPD will verify that the manuscript has collected relevant comments and paper criticism which should come before (see Activity 3).
ACTIVITY 3: Writing a short dissemination or scientific opinion article
TYPE: Compulsory
NUMBER OF HOURS: 50
DESCRIPTION:
Within 32 months since the admission, students will write a short dissemination or scientific opinion article, with the proper approach in order to be published in a newspaper. The manuscript may have multiple authors
but in this case the student is the first author. The article will focus on a subject included into the science field of the doctoral programme, but not necessarily on the doctoral research. Students will submit
a previously published article.

ASSESSMENT:
The CAPD will assess the article in its substantive and formal aspects, for which, if necessary, will count with the assistance of specialists in communication and non-specialist readers.
ACTIVITY 4: Attendance at the annual meeting of the programme students
TYPE: Compulsory
NUMBER OF HOURS: 120
DESCRIPTION:
Annually, over a week in the last quarter of the academic year, a meeting of doctoral students, with the assistance of senior lecturers, with a commitment of 40 hours / year will be organized. Attendance at these sessions are not counted within Activity 1. Part-time students must participate in this activity in years 1, 3 and 4.

Students will be registered in attendance sheets which to be collated by the CAPD.
ACTIVITY 5: Organising an annual meeting of the programme students
TYPE: Compulsory
NUMBER OF HOURS: 50
DESCRIPTION:
The organization of the annual conferences will be borne by third-year students (fourth if part-time position) with the guardianship of the CAPD. The senior lecturers will be related to the research topics of third-year students and will have working meetings with them.

ASSESSMENT:
The CAPD will supervise the organization, the fair work of the students and their interaction with the invited senior lecturers.
ACTIVITY 6: Exposition of an annual meeting of the students of the programme
TYPE: Compulsory
NUMBER OF HOURS: 50
DESCRIPTION:
In the conferences referred to in Activity 5 the students of the second year(third if part-time position) will perform an oral presentation talking about their doctoral thesis results. This lecture will be the basis of the manuscript referred to in Activity 3.

ASSESSMENT:
The CAPD will attend the lecture and the student must submit a draft of the paper and the comments and questions that have arisen in the same, and their answers.
