What are the Diplomas in Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE)?

DELE

What are they?

The DELE diplomas are official qualifications certifying the degree of competence and mastery of Spanish granted by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport. The diplomas have indefinite validity and there is no need to sit the exams again or reconfirm the competence acquired in Spanish in any other way.

The DELE examinations follow the guidelines of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) of the Council of Europe, which ensures a practical way of establishing an international and objective standard measurement of the level to be achieved in each stage of education and in the evaluation of results. All the varieties of Spanish are considered valid for obtaining the diploma.

Who can sit the exam?

General DELE examinations are aimed at literate individuals of all ages, especially those aged 16 and over. Registration of minors must be made by their legal representatives.
