The RD1393/2007 from 29 October, modified by the RD 861/2010 from 2 July, for a regulation establishing the arrangement of official University Teaching in Spain, indicates that teaching leading to the obtaining of a Master’s Degree title will conclude with the elaboration and public defence of a Master’s Degree Final Project (TFM), which will be worth from 3 to 30 credits, in accordance with the established by the corresponding curriculum.

Concept

Master’s Degree Final Project will consist in undertaking a report or project under the supervision of a tutor whom the student shows the knowledge and competencies acquired throughout his or her Degree.
These projects are a student’s autonomous and personal task task. The projects should be undertaken in accordance with the regulations of the Master’s Degree verification report.

The Academic Coordinating Committees of each Master’s can establish specific guidelines and assessment criteria for standardising the preparation and assessment of the Master’s Degree Final Project. In this case, the Academic Coordinating Committee must send a copy of these guidelines to the Postgraduate Studies Committee in order to ensure that its contents are compliant with the regulations.

Types

The types of Master’s Degree final projects are the following:

  • Academic projects on bibliographic review and research, or experimental projects.
  • Projects coordinated with the undertaking of work placements in enterprises or institutions.
  • Equivalent works developed as the result of a period of study in other Spanish or foreign university.
  • Other works not included in the previous modalities as specified in the verified curriculum.

In any case, works must be made in a report or a written project which will be accompanied, where appropriate, with the estimated pertinent material.
