Crystalized sulfur sample (S16), formed by orthorhombic crystals. Sulfur is a native element. (Exclusively formed by sulfur atoms). This mix of sulfur crystals come from the notorious italian town of Casteltermini (Sicily, Italy). This samples are considered among the best worldwide, and nowadays it is difficult to find samples at this location with such quality. The sample belongs to the mineralogical collection of “Juan López Aliaga”, a valencian collector who passed away, so the collection was fully donated to the Museum of theNatural History of University of Valencia by his family at the beginnings of 2019, where it is being catalogued and photographed. This sample has measures of 3x2x2 cm and has been photographed with a Pentax K1 Mark II camera with a high resolution macro lens. This mineral represents de 10% of gunpowder composition, which it is used in large amounts during the popular celebration of “Fallas” in Valencia occurring in the month of March. |
