The supervision and monitoring of the doctoral student's research activity are functions shared between the tutor, the thesis supervisors, and the Academic Committee of the doctoral program.
- Agents Involved
- Tutor
This person is responsible for ensuring that the doctoral student's training and research activity conform to the principles of the program and, where applicable, of the Doctoral School. This role is filled by a doctor with proven research experience and associated with the program. The tutor acts as a link between the doctoral student and the Academic Committee. They may or may not coincide with the thesis supervisor. - Thesis Supervisor
This person can be any doctor with proven research experience, regardless of their institution of origin. Each thesis may be co-supervised by up to three people. - Program Academic Committee
This person is responsible for defining, updating, ensuring quality, and coordinating the program. Supervises the progress of the doctoral student's research and training, and authorizes the submission of the thesis.

- Supervision and Monitoring Mechanisms
The doctoral student's progress is assessed annually using the following instruments:- Research Plan
The doctoral student must submit a Research Plan that includes, at a minimum, the methodology, objectives, planned resources, and a timeline for the work.
This plan may be modified or detailed throughout the studies, but it must always reflect progress in the development of the thesis. The annual evaluation of the plan is essential to document the monitoring and verify the doctoral student's progress. - Doctoral Activities Document
This document records all activities relevant to the doctoral student's academic development (courses, seminars, internships, etc.). The tutor or supervisor must individually validate each one.
The Academic Committee issues an annual report based on this document. - Personal Development Plan
This includes the training activities planned during the doctorate (courses, seminars, mobility, etc.), in accordance with the program report. This plan is periodically reviewed, along with the Research Plan, by the tutor and supervisor.
- Research Plan
- Annual Evaluation
Every year, the Academic Committee evaluates the Research Plan, the Activities Document, and the reports from the tutor and supervisor.
A positive evaluation is a prerequisite for continuing in the program. In the event of a negative evaluation, the doctoral student will have six months to complete a new evaluation. If this is also negative, the student will be permanently discharged from the program. - RAPID Platform
RAPID (Registry of Activities and the Doctoral Research Plan) is the University of Valencia's electronic platform for managing individual doctoral studies. It is used by doctoral students, tutors, supervisors, and Academic Committees. - Evaluation Deadlines
Each academic year, the Doctoral School publishes a calendar with the deadlines for the ordinary and extraordinary examination sessions (for those who have not passed the ordinary evaluation).
