Description

The project aims to analyse four fundamental aspects of the participation of Spain in the health international movement: 1) the historical meaning of the International Sanitary Conferences that took place during second half of the 19th century (1851-1911); the role played by the Spanish health administration will be considered, as well as the repercussions of the conferences in the Spanish sanitary organisation and the measures of public health, specially in relation to the control of plagues and the vigilance of land and sea borders; 2) the public health programs and campaigns agreed and promoted by the Spanish Government and the Rockefeller Foundation since the 1920s onwards; 3) the participation of Spanish experts in the Health Board of the League of Nations. The main lines of action of the Health Board will be analysed, taking into consideration the Spanish participation in the genesis and management of specific projects as well as in the committees of international experts, y 4) the contribution of Spanish experts to the International Health Organisations: World Health Organisation (WHO), Pan-American Office of Health (POH) and other international organisations. The Spanish participation in the committees of experts and campaigns promoted by international the sanitary organisms (the WHO, OPS).
