This project was born with the clear goal of developing ITS technologies and improving competitiveness of the Spanish business sector through the development of an ambitious R&D programme that will place the companies of the sector in a clear position of technological leadership, diversifying our industrial infrastructure and supporting new technologies and the development of high technological risk solutions but with a high added value.
For achieving this goal, INTELVIA groups the efforts of some of the main companies, technological centres, universities and ITS solutions managers, with important experience in technological development of R&D activities. The fact that in INTELVIA participate all the agents of the value chain, including end users, guarantees its cross-sectional and inclusive view and the continuous focus in the development of new technologies from a perspective of encouraging social and economic development of Spain through the creation of technological solutions and the improvement of quality of life of citizens.
Specifically, INTELVIA wants to give a solution to intelligent traffic management developing a Control, Signaling and Communication Comprehensive System for Safe and Intelligent Operational Management of Traffic in Services and Infrastructures, through the development of technological solutions in the field of computer vision and of the cooperative ITS systems for support and dynamic assistance to the driver.
The development of computer vision solutions increases intelligence in traffic management and in decision making from the control centre, allowing the automatic analysis of information and a faster detection of incidents and the management of the road network.
Furthermore, with the aim of optimising the development of technologically advanced control centres that centralise, optimise and makes flexible the management of the infrastructures, INTELVIA proposes the development of a new system of intelligent electronic road signs included in the control centre, and designed for complementing at first, and replace in the future, the current road signs for a dynamic, flexible, reliable and low cost signaling.
The signal system requires, consequently, the employment of new communication technologies in the ITS field. Particularly, the system will consider the employment of communication technologies V21 as Zigbee/WAVE/802.11p for the transmission of signal information from the infrastructure towards the vehicles; V2V communication technologies as WAVE for the signal information exchange also between nearby vehicles and give more robustness to the system; communication technologies such as Zigbee/WiFi/Bluetooth for the interconnection of signal elements in an intelligent signal network, self-configurable and fault tolerant; long-distance transmission technologies such as WIMAX/UMTS/GPRS for the interconnection of the signal network with control centre and its monitoring, management and modification. The following figure illustrates the concept of electronic and intelligent road signs that propose the INTELVIA project.
