RTMS (Road Traffic Monitoring System)

Managing traffic requires a very detailed knowledge of the traffic conditions in the area of interest. Knowing about vehicle routes and origin-destination matrices is the most useful information that may be used for traffic management. RTMS helps identifying the same vehicle in different areas by using Bluetooth and WiFi systems. Such information as well as the speed times in given points are then stored by using sensors that have been designed and built for such purpose. The information collected by sensors is then sent to a server for processing.

The work procedure is based on the fact that vehicles are equipped with Bluetooth devices and the occupants use mobile devices with WiFi technology. When a vehicle passes by a sensor, it is captured and identified by using a unique series code for each one of them. In this way, the vehicle may be located later on at any point of the network. In this way, it is possible to obtain travel times and origin-destination matrices. Sensors communicate the data captured to a central server, either by using the communications infrastructure of the road or by using wireless connections, such as WiFi or 3G. Data are processed in real time, are provided to the traffic manager and are stored in a database. Currently, the system has been installed on highways belonging to the OHL group in Spain and Mexico as well as on public dual carriageways of the Spanish road network (A-2).
MARKETING: RTMS is marketed under the acquisition device system, license of software use and annual maintenance fee.
