“Memory policies in Italy: the case of the capital, Rome”

The conference will focus on the implemented memory policies as councillor of culture in the triennium 2021-2024, through toponymy. Especially, he will analyse three matters related to fascim and antifascism, political violence in the 70s and the project of decolonisation of street names.

Miguel Gotor (Roma, 1971) teaches Modern History in the Tor Vergata University of Rome and he takes active part in the Italian public, intellectual and political debate. Professor Gotor is a researcher specialised in the study of saints, heretics, inquisitors between the 16th and 17th  centuries, as well as in the Italian History of the 70s at the end of the 20th century. He has been editor of Lettere dalla prigionia de Aldo Moro (2008) and of La passione non è finita (2013), the collection of texts of Enrico Berlinguer. He is the author of Il memoriale della Repubblica, among other books. Gli scritti di Aldo Moro dalla prigionia e l’anatomia del potere italiano (2011), L’Italia nel Novecento (2019) and Generazione Settanta. Storia del decennio piú lungo del secolo breve 1966-1982 (2022). 

He was senator in the Italian Republic between 2013 and 2018, as well as councillor of Culture of Rome from 2021 to 2024.
