The Universitat de València, through the offices of the Vice-Principal for Internationalisation and Cooperation and Equality, Diversity and Sustainability is present at the 25th Conference of the Parties (COP25) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which takes place from 2nd to 13th December in Madrid under the presidency of Chile.

The Universitat de València, represented by its UN Depositary Library is located at the stand number 3 at the green space of the Madrid’s COP25, with the collaboration of the Cooperation Unit of the Universitat. Its librarian, Chelo Pons, presented a project to COP25 within the RECIDA network (Centros de documentación ambiental del estado español), entitled Las Bibliotecas verdes por el clima (RECIDA). Tesoros para cambiar el mundo (Green Libraries for the Climate - RECIDA. Treasures for a change in the world). In this project, in which the UV participates, many activities are organised during these days with colloquiums, book launching, exhibitions and even role-playing games in order to inform about the SDGs and the environmental situation.

In addition, two conferences will take place on Wednesday 11th December. On the one hand, the delegate of the Principal of the Universitat for Sustainability, Pilar Rueda, will speak about La reducción de la huella de carbón en la UV: acciones, compromisos y transformación (Reducing the carbon footprint in the UV: actions, commitments and transformation), which aims to convert commitments in the fight against the climate crisis into active policies of the academic institution. With the title Artificial Intelligence tono monitor our changing planet, Gustau Camps-Vall, Maria Piles and Verónica Nieves will talk about monitoring and objectifying the parameters to reduce the carbon footprint.

These projects are framed within the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the Agenda 2030 of the United Nations that seeks to commit the UN member states in the protection of people, the planet and prosperity. Specifically, SDG number 13 is action for climate and the fight to curb the global climate emergency.

The Conference of the Parties is the supreme body of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). This annual conference, which this year celebrates its 25th edition, brings together heads of state and government from countries that have signed the UNFCCC along with scientists, business people, members of civil society and NGOs to find solutions to reduce the effects of the climate crisis. This year's reunion is especially crucial, as it constitutes the last meeting to activate the 2015 Paris Agreement, conceived as the first binding global pact in defence of the planet's climate, which must be fully in force by January 2020. Therefore, the COP25 seeks to promote the guarantees to implement it with the entry into force of national measures.
