Title: Learning from incidents- an opportunity for organisational learning and change
Summary: Learning from incidents (LFI) in the workplace has been gaining increasing importance in the Health, Safety and Environment context. Although organisations adopt a variety of LFI initiatives, it is often unclear what learning approaches are the most appropriate and the most effective for different types of incidents across a range of contexts. The seminar would present the work conducted at Glasgow Caledonian University within the “Learning from Incidents” project funded by the UK Energy Institute and Shell. The seminar will cover factors for effective LFI processes in organisations. In particular the importance of agency in organisational learning and the organisational and individual elements that affect it will be explored. Furthermore the intervention method of Change Laboratories and the results of this particular intervention method used at two company sites will be discussed will be presented. The seminar will end with an open discussion of issues and future research ideas related to organisational behaviour and learning.
