Artur Colom, professor at the University of Barcelona and member of the POLAR Research Group, conducted a seminar on 14 November 2023 at the UV Faculty of Economics titled ‘Development policies in Africa: the role of the IMF and external debt.’ 
Since the generalisation of structural adjustment plans in Sub-Saharan Africa during the 1980s, different economic policy models have been applied and have failed to produce a structural change that gives rise to development.
These different economic policy models were analysed at the seminar, highlighting the role of the IMF and the current external debt crisis that many African countries are faced with.
