Ángel Soler
Short bio
Dr Soler graduated in Economics and Business Administration from the Universitat de València, he holds a Master’s Degree in Industrial Economics and a PhD in Economics from the Universitat de València. He has been Adjunct Professor and Assistant Professor at this University between 2010 and 2023 and, currently, he is a Permanent Employment Professor at the Department of Applied Economics, Vice-Dean of Entrepreneurship and Institutional Relations of the Faculty of Economics at the Universitat de València, and director of the Statistics site of the Social Economy of Spain (CIRIECSTAT). He worked as a senior research technician at the Ivie from 1996 and 2019, where he is currently an Associate Researcher since 2020.
His main fields of research are the economics of education, human development and the labor market, subjects on which he has published more than 100 books and book chapters, as well as 21 articles in national and international scientific journals. He has participated in more than 95 research projects and is co-author of the database Human Capital Series for Spain, its Regions and Provinces, which has been the main focus of collaboration with the Bancaja Foundation for more than twenty years. He has dedicated an important part of his professional career to the design and construction of the Human Development Index (HDI) for the Spanish regions, a very relevant topic for many important institutions such as the United Nations. In addition, he has participated in international projects such as EUKLEMS, SPINTAN, INDICSER and EISMEA.
He is a collaborating professor of the Chair for a Sustainable Economic Model of València and its Surroundings (MESVAL) (Universitat de València and Valencia City Council) and the Chair for Economic and Social Policy of the Valencian Region (PESCV) (Universitat de València and Valencian Government [Generalitat Valenciana]) since their creation. He was awarded by the Faculty of Economics with the IV Premi d'Igualtat in 2017, was a member of the team that developed the study “El Desarrollo del Arco Mediterráneo Español. Trajectory and perspectives”, which received the 2010 VIII Premi Societat Catalana d'Economia in 2011 and 1st prize in the III Congress MESVAL in 2021.
