Sterochemical complexity generation through novel enantioselective tandem processes

Acronym

CIAICO/2022/216

Description

The following proposal is situated within the context of asymmetric catalysis. Specifically, the objective is to develop new methodologies that would allow access to new nitrogen heterocycles that contain multiple stereocentres through multiple tandem processes. The initial objective is to employ carboxylic conjugated acids as Michael acceptors in intramolecular processes by using new catalysts that contain boronic acid in their structure. Secondly, the reactivity of fluorinated conjugated imines against vinylogous donors will be assessed by employing organocatalysis as a methodological tool. The third objective of the project will consist in obtaining chiral tetrahydroisoquinoline derivatives through an intramolecular tandem aza-Michael/intramolecular conjugated addition/lactamisation process. The combination of asymmetric catalysis with tandem reactions that prevent separation processes and the manipulation of intermediates constitutes two of the basic principles of green chemistry. Furthermore, the use of metals, which are linked to the use of toxic products, is avoided in accordance with the twelve principles. Consequently, the development of sustainable processes that adhere to the tenets of green chemistry represents a pivotal objective within the discipline of chemistry.
