María Emilia Adán: "In times of crisis, education is an essential investment".

"We need a quality University, with a strong research and demanding side. In times of crisis, education is an essential investment". With these statements, María Emilia Adán, president of the Social Council of the Universitat de València, today closed the 25th edition of the University-Society Awards of the Social Council of the Universitat de València. A commemorative edition, in its twenty-fifth anniversary, which has taken place in the Assembly Hall of the headquarters of the University-Business Foundation ADEIT.

This celebration was attended by the Consellera for Innovation, Universities, Science and Digital Society of the Generalitat Valenciana, Carolina Pascual; the Principal of the Universitat de València, María Vicenta Mestre and the president of the Social Council of the Universitat de València, María Emilia Adán, as well as prominent personalities from the Administration and the university environment.

The 25th edition of the University-Society Awards of the Social Council of the Universitat de València has recognised the company Dacsa in the category of University-Company collaboration, the Cell Physiopathology Unit of the Universitat de València, with the Innovation Award; the XatUv project of the Web and Marketing Unit of the Universitat de València in the category of Digital Humanism and Alicia Armengot, professor of Procedural Law of the Universitat de València, with the award for Teaching Excellence.

Alumni Plus 'Insigne UV' Award to Damià Tormo

Entrepreneur and researcher, graduate in Biological Sciences from the Universitat de València and Master in Biological Sciences from the Universitat, managing partner and co-founder of Columbus Ventrue Partners, Damià Tormo has been awarded the Alumni Plus 'InsigneUV' Award. In the last 15 years he has worked in the biopharmaceutical and healthcare industry.  Artax Biopharma Inc, Bioncotech Therapeutics SL, Restaura Biotech SL or PTS are some of the biotech companies he has founded in recent years.

In addition, Damià Tormo is president and patron of the Columbus Foundation, which facilitates access to the most advanced therapies for children with cancer and rare monogenic diseases. He has received several awards related to innovation and entrepreneurship, including MIT's TR35, the Biogen Foundation Award and the Princess of Girona Foundation Award.

A commemorative edition

Numerous personalities, leading companies, prestigious entities, university projects and leading research centres make up the list of winners over these 25 editions of the Universitat de València University-Societat Awards of the Social Council of the Universitat de València.

Looking ahead to the next edition, these awards are already a national benchmark: "to take stock of these 25 editions we need a broad vision and perspective, which allows us to remember the starting point and compare it with the current situation, without triumphalism, without conformism, without resigning ourselves to the challenges of the future, but with a sincere satisfaction for what has been achieved so far," said María Emilia Adán, president of the Social Council of the Universitat de València and ADEIT.

In the category of Alumni Plus Awards 'Insigne UV', the trajectory of prestigious personalities of the Valencian society linked to the Universitat de València in their higher education has been recognised, such as the now art expert Vicente Todolí, the economist José Viñals, the director of the Prado Museum Miguel Falomir, the president of the High Court of Justice of the Valencian Community Pilar de l'Oliva, the writer Santiago Posteguillo or the CEO of the multinational Imegen Ángela Pérez.
