A project for saving irrigation water wins the First Motivem Award

‘How to save irrigation water?’ is the name of the winner project of the Second Entrepreneurship Promotion Awards in the Aula Motivem, organised by the Chair for Business Culture and which have been awarded this Wednesday at the ADEIT’s headquarters.

The students of the Diploma in Industrial and Environmental Applications Temperature Measurement from a Distance of the UV Pablo Botella, Diego Camilo Caselles, Ana Gabriela Iglesias and Rubén Victoria are leading this idea that has been coordinated by the Full University Professor of Earth Physics and Thermodynamics Vicente Caselles.

The winner project, which has been awarded with 4,000 euros, consists of saving irrigation water through satellite images that according to the winners is a way to know the hydrological need of a crop from the information provided by the satellite image of the previous day.

The professor who has coordinated this project has highlighted the eagerness and energy of the young students as the better way to overcome economic difficulties. “ If we use the energy of the young people and the experience of adults there is no crisis that we can’t handle claimed Caselles.

The second award, endowed with 3,000 euros, has been awarded to “ Bioluminiscencia‘, which is a biotechnological application for the invention of new sources of renewable energy based on the creation of vegetal organisms that, added to respecting the environment are able to send out light. This project coordinated by the Full University Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Emilia Matallana, has been developed by the students of Biotechnology María Martí, Cristina Santana and Laura Villamayor..

deCo“ is the third winner project of this edition that has been awarded with 2,000 euros. The students of Psychology Sara Martínez, Joaquín Rodríguez and Ana Vicent, coordinated by the Full University Professor of Methodology of Behaviour Sciences Amparo Oliver, have developed this idea, based on an ecological monitoring device of CO that allows an increased efficiency of energetic consumption, and at the same time a greater home protection and safety.

An enterprising university

Quality, eagerness, and work team and the innovative capacity has been the aspects most highlighted by the Principal of the UV, Esteban Morcillo, on the three winner projects, that as he has pointed out show the enterprising spirit of the entire Universitat de València. “These awards represent the entire university community, very committed to entrepreneurship“ he said. Specially he has stressed the role of students who “ keep alive and fresh a centenary university, as if was created only few decades ago“ according to the Principal of the UV.

Accordingly, the Chair of CIERVAL, José Vicente González, has pointed out “ the boldness of young university students and the work method of these awards, based on the collaboration of professors and students for the creation of new entrepreneurial ideas. Likewise, González, has encouraged students to take a decisive step to the business world and become business entrepreneurs. “From CIERVAL, we welcome you to the world of business venture“ he added.

On the other hand, the Chairperson of the Chair for Business Culture, Carlos Pascual, was astonished by the quality of the ideas presented and has thanked the companies of the Board of this Chair and to the Caixa his support to this initiative, which allows that the University pioneers, along with other initiatives, its approach to the business world.

In the award ceremony participated also different personalities of the areas of Administration, Business and University, like for example the General Assistant Director of Training and Mobility of Teaching Staff and Teaching Innovation of the Ministry of Education, Alejandro Cremades; General Director of University, Higher Studies and Science of the Valencian Department for Education, Felipe Palau; the Vice-Principal for Studies of the UV, Maria Vicenta Mestre; and the Regional Manager of La Caixa, Bibiano Manuel Martínez.
