Goals
- Promote and conduct research on political theory, constitutionalism and democratic constitutionalism, including:
- The theory and practice of constituent power, and constituent processes
- The legitimacy of power, the democratic principle as a legitimator of political organisation, and the conditions for popular sovereignty
- The validity and characteristics of constituent power as an emancipatory force
- The delimitation of the concept of democratic constitutionalism and new constitutionalism
- Promote and conduct research on constitutional theory and the democratic Constitution, including:
- The origin and functions of the Constitution. The democratic Constitution through history and its contemporary significance.
- The democratic interpretation of the Constitution. Intangibility clauses.
- The relationship between constituent power and the Constitution. Legitimacy and constitutional validity. Democratic control and validity of popular sovereignty in the Constitution.
- The contents of the Constitution in constitutional history and in new constitutionalism. Minorities and oppressed groups.
