The Martínez Guerricabeitia Trust was established in 1989, on initiative of the businessman and collector Jesús Martínez Guerricabeitia and the General Foundation of the University of Valencia, with the Martínez Guerricabeitia Bienial being occasionally held since 1990. Additionally, on 7 July 1999, both Jesús Martínez and his wife Carmen García Merchante donated to the University a significant set of works (paintings, drawings and stamps) for their study, preservation and diffusion. In this way, the University of Valencia is the owner of one of the most significant contemporary art collections whose funds are displayed in the Martínez Guerricabeitia hall of the General Study of the University. Authors like Juan Barjola, Rafael Canogar, Equipo Crónica, Equipo Realidad, Erró, Juan Genovés, Jacinta Gil, Agustín Ibarrola, Carlos Mensa, Monjalés, José Ortega, Julián Pacheco, Fernando Somoza, Giangiacomo Spadari, Anzo, Rafael Amengol, Eduardo Arroyo, Artur Heras, Antoni Miró, Sergio Sarri, Antonio Seguí, Wolf Vostell, Darío Villalba and Carmen Calvo, among others, are part of this interesting collection. From 2016, the Trust is renamed as Martínez Guerricabeitia Collection
