
The event was held at the University of Girona on November 11
On November 11, 2024, at 11 a.m., the Faculty of Law at the University of Girona (UdG) hosted the viva of José Manuel Bonilla’s doctoral thesis, titled “The Relationships Between a Hybrid Political Actor and a Political Party: The Case of Ciutadans pel Canvi and the Partit dels Socialistes de Catalunya.” This research, supervised by Salvador Martí and Macià Serra from UdG, and Oscar Barberà from the University of Valencia (UV), is an exhaustive study analyzing the dynamics and interactions between these two political actors in the Catalan context.
The jury was composed of distinguished academics such as: Juan Rodríguez Teruel (UV), Gemma Ubasart (UdG), and Valeria Tarditti (Università della Calabria, Italy). The defense began promptly, with Bonilla presenting the key points of his research, which includes a detailed analysis of political strategies, alliances, and conflicts between Ciutadans pel Canvi and the Partit dels Socialistes de Catalunya.
During his presentation, Bonilla emphasized the importance of understanding the relationships between hybrid political actors and traditional parties for a better interpretation of the current political landscape. His research provides new perspectives on how these actors can influence political decisions and the formation of electoral alliances.
After the presentation, the jury intervened with questions and comments, positively evaluating the depth and rigor of the study. The discussion was enriching, with contributions that allowed for further exploration of the topics covered in the thesis.
Finally, the committee deliberated and awarded José Manuel Bonilla the grade of excellent, highlighting the relevance and originality of his work. This defense marks an important step in Bonilla’s academic career and significantly contributes to the field of political actors and their interactions.
