DIGIPOL is the acronym for RESEARCH GROUP ON DIGITALISATION AND POLITICS, a research group recognised by the University of Valencia that studies the interrelation between digital transformation and politics. The group was founded in 2017 (GIUV2017-362), but its current orientation and many of its members have been members since 2021.
The main purpose of this group is to study the influence of the digital on citizens, actors, institutions and political processes, to analyse the importance of agency in digital transformation processes, and to promote recommendations and good practices.
DIGIPOL aims to analyse phenomena such as:
- The impact of the digital on citizens' political participation.
- The transformations brought by the digital in the way political actors (particularly parties) and institutions organise and function.
- The conceptions that different actors and institutions have of the digital transformation, as well as its impact on their organisation and political proposals.
- Digital regulation of the functioning and performance of political actors and institutions.
- The changes in the power relations produced by the digital in different institutions, groups and social movements.
- The impact of the digital transformation on policy-making and the evaluation of public policies.
- The transformations favoured by the digital in the institutional performance (representation, transparency, integrity, accountability, democratic quality).
The group is open to collaboration with other UV professors and researchers interested in these issues.
DIGIPOL aims to serve as a platform at the University of Valencia for researchers from other Spanish or international universities working on digitalisation and politics, or on similar issues.
It is also willing to promote collaboration with other civil society organisations, institutions, public administrations, firms or policy-makers either in the Valencian Community, Spain or other countries, as well as to promote collaborative projects, exchange of knowledge, research, or good practices.
