The book, published at the Center for Political and Constitutional Studies, is edited by Oscar Barberà (UV) and Patricia Correa (Aston) in collaboration with several academics from Spanish universities.
The aim of this book is to offer a detailed overview of the main features and the political and organizational evolution of the new Non-State wide left parties that emerged in Spain in the context of the Great Recession. The cases included are those of Adelante Andalucía, Catalunya en Comú, the Candidatura d'Unitat Popular, Compromís, EH Bildu, En Marea, Geroa Bai, Más Madrid, Més per Mallorca and Nueva Canarias. The introduction establishes a common analytical framework that the rest of the chapters develop empirically. The conclusions offer a panoramic view of the constitutive characteristics, the ideas they represent, the degree of institutional representation achieved, the main features of their organizational structure, and the evolution of their political trajectory of these parties. Despite the organizational and ideological similarities between many of them, especially during their origins, their political evolution has not always followed similar trajectories. The book also helps to understand the relevance that a great deal of these parties have achieved in their respective party systems and in the national political arena. The book is the result of the close collaboration of a team of experts from different academic, generational and territorial backgrounds.
