The project, financed by the University of Valencia, will last one year and is led by Oscar Barberà.

The project The digital reinvention of political parties (DIGIPART2) aims to analyze the organizational implications derived from the digital transformation of political parties in different countries in Europe. The specific aims of the project are to map the different dimensions of digitalization and to understand their organizational and social consequences. The project will focus on several dimensions: On the one hand it will map the degree of digitalization of several political parties. It will also analyse how and when political parties adopt digital democratic innovations (such as digital voting or participatory digital platforms of parties). Finally, it will also focus on the perceptions that the party elites and the party supporters have of the digital shift. Furthermore, DIGIPART2 is willing to strengthen the collaboration with several international networks such a the Digital Parties and Politics Research Network and will try to attract future regional, national, and international funding (COST, Horizon Europe, etc.). The project will be organized into various working groups and will last between September 2023 and August 2024. It is expected that the main impact will not only focus on top-level academic publications, but also on teaching and the involvement and collaboration with various interest groups such as political parties, think tanks and international watchdogs to provide recommendations and good practices.
