Presents a database on the primaries of Spanish political parties

DIGIPOL researchers Oscar Barberà, Adrián Megías and Ramón Villaplana have made a recent contribution to the dissemination of data science with the publication of an article in the journal Data in Brief. The article, entitled "A dataset exploring turnout patterns in Spanish party primaries (1991–2023)" presents a comprehensive dataset that analyzes turnout patterns in Spanish political party primaries over three decades.

The database is available for download, along with the codebook, on Zenodo.

The study allows all those interested in the primaries to better understand the structure and potential of the database. The text is of special interest to all those researchers who want to better understand the factors that influence electoral participation. With this analysis, we seek to contribute to the debate on the internal democratization of parties and its impact on citizen participation in political organizations, continuing with the work recently published in Party Politics (https://doi.org/10.1177/13540688231199450).

For those interested in delving deeper into this analysis and exploring the dataset, the full article is available on ScienceDirect (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.dib.2024.110111).
