Mathematics is a millenary discipline and, at the same time, a very contemporary one. Its value as a science and its importance in the general development of human knowledge is indisputable. Mathematics is essential in the future development of a wide variety of scientific and technological disciplines. Almost all branches of human knowledge use mathematical models. Even in the last decades, beyond its classic applications to Physics and Engineering, it has been highlighted its contribution to areas of knowledge in the field of Social Sciences or Health, in which its applications were not traditionally usual. This is why society has the need to have a higher degree in Mathematics, which allows training researchers specialised in this fundamental branch of knowledge, both for its intrinsic interest and for its potential application in any field of human activity.
