What are STM?

Short-Term Mobilities (STM) are mobilities, one week in most of them, organised by the European University Alliance FORTHEM. There are two types: collective and individual.

Who can participate in these mobilities?

Any student of the Universitat de València (UV) enrolled in official bachelor's, master's or doctoral studies in the academic year corresponding to the call can apply.

This condition must be met both at the time of application and during the period of the stay.

The programme is aimed at official UV students, so exchange students are excluded.

When are the calls for applications?

There are two calls for applications per year, between March and August and between September and February. To find out exactly when the calls are open and to apply, it is best to sign up for the FORTHEM Newsletter.

How do I apply?

The application must be made in English and it is essential to include the attachments indicated in the programme description (usually CV and motivation letter, both in English) if you want your application to be considered.

How is the stay financed?

If you are selected, you are entitled to the FORTHEM scholarship, which consists of a part to finance travel and subsistence, plus a third part if you travel by sustainable means of transport. The two (or three) are added together and that is the fixed amount you receive after the stay and after sending all the documentation, regardless of whether you spend more or less.

How is the trip organised?

The trip is organised by each student, the organisers normally call a meeting before the mobility to give recommendations about accommodation or transport and about the programme. You can also contact the FORTHEM local offices.

Can I do a short-term mobility if I am on Erasmus?

The Erasmus stay is NOT COMPATIBLE with an STM in the same academic year, except for Erasmus already completed (with certificate of completion).

IMPORTANT: The Erasmus stay and the STM must not exceed 12 months in total.

What happens if I have to cancel at the last minute?

If, due to force majeure, you need to cancel your mobility, you have to inform both the FORTHEM UV Local Office and the host university and organisers. If travel expenses have been incurred, they cannot be funded.

Can I get ECTS credits for participating in a short-term mobility?

No, the University of Valencia does not recognise credits for participating in a STM, although some of the universities of the Alliance may grant credits to their students. That is why it is always indicated that you should consult with the home university.
