Description:
The Democracy Week aims to promote knowledge about democracy and human rights, raising awareness and equipping students with the knowledge to be able to stand for democratic values.
It is linked to “Demokratiuka” in Kristiansand (Agder, Norway), which again is anchored in the European Conference on Democracy and Human Rights, taking place every year on or around 5th May. This conference is produced in collaboration with the Council of Europe.
All FORTHEM students and academics who support the main objective of strengthening democracy, human rights and freedom of expression are encouraged to propose events or activities that can be implemented on their local campuses during the period of March-June 2026.
All concepts to strengthen democratic values among the FORTHEM university communities are welcome.
Application procedure:
Each prospective participant must fill in the application form under the following link, to allow us to select the best candidates.
The applications received no later than the date indicated above will be reviewed by the University of Agder, which will rank the applications based on the submitted motivational letter.
Students
If you are a student enrolled in a FORTHEM university, you can apply to:
- physically attend the programme in Kristiansand (Agder, Norway) from 1st to 5th May 2026, with a travel stipend.
- propose workshops, activities, or simple contributions related to the Democracy Week on your campus in the period of March-June 2026.
Academics
If you are a teacher or a researcher working at a FORTHEM university, you can apply to
- propose on-campus activities, workshops and other events related to the Democracy Week in the period of March-June 2026.
- propose online sessions related to the Democracy Week to take place during March-June 2026.
- travel to the main event in Kristiansand (Agder, Norway) and contribute to the programme from 1st to 5th May 2026.
Selection criteria:
- Evaluation of motivational letter
- Priority to attend the main event will be given to applicants who deliver activities on their campuses during the period of March-June 2026.
