Training on European collaborative research. Online session on March 26; registration open until March 24.
This training explores how European research collaboration can be understood, designed, and strategically embedded in institutional practice. It introduces the wider European policy and funding landscape, including the role of European University Alliances, the European Research Area, and emerging discussions on future collaboration models under the next Multiannual Financial Framework.
The session then turns to collaboration in practice, addressing institutional logics, consortium dynamics, and the boundary-spanning competences needed to operate effectively in complex international partnerships. A further focus is placed on the researcher perspective, including collaboration maturity, research stewardship, and the FORTHEM Researcher Development Progression Matrix as a tool to support structured researcher development.
The training also highlights the longer-term strategic value of alliances as enabling environments for innovation, institutional learning, and capability building. A final part provides an overview of relevant European funding schemes and practical guidance on project design.
Target group:
Staff involved in research support, researcher development, alliance work, and strategic research management, as well as trainers working with researchers in European collaboration contexts.
Expected takeaways:
Participants will gain a clearer understanding of the European collaboration landscape, practical insights into consortium-oriented project development, and strategic perspectives on how collaborative research can be embedded in institutional and alliance-based capacity building.
Key dates:
This online session, organized by the University of Latvia and Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, will take place on 26 March, and the registration deadline is 24 March.
