Exhibition on the climate crisis in the Mediterranean and the urgent need for action based on science, cooperation and social responsibility.
MEDITERRANEAN: THE LAST CALL.Climate crisis, emergency and action/adaptation is an exhibition that brings together art, science and reflection to reveal, from a Mediterranean perspective, the scale and consequences of the climate crisis. Through a visual and educational approach, the exhibition invites visitors to understand how climate change affects territories, ecosystems and human communities, while imagining shared responses to this global challenge.
Linked to the publication Climate Change: Scientific Evidence (PUV), the exhibition highlights the scientific and outreach work developed within the framework of the First Conference of Experts on Climate Change and Territory in the Iberian Mediterranean, organised by the Chair of Climate Change, Territory and Environmental Risks in the Mediterranean at the University of Valencia.
Conceived as a space for learning and awareness, it combines texts, photographs and illustrations to make the effects of climate change visible. Recent episodes —such as the 2024 DANA or the 2025 megafires— are presented as examples of an accelerating crisis that demands an immediate and collective response.
The exhibition is structured around six thematic modules —Water, Fire, Air, Earth, Institutions and Citizenship— offering a comprehensive view of the causes and consequences of climate change, while proposing five key areas for action: nature-based solutions, transformation of economic models, protection of vulnerable populations, cooperative governance and environmental education for shared responsibility.
Organised by the Vice-Rectorate for Culture and Society at the University of Valencia, through the Universitat i Societat programme, and in collaboration with the Rectorate and the Chair of Climate Change, Territory and Environmental Risks in the Mediterranean, the exhibition is curated by Professor Javier Serrano and supported by Caixa Popular and the Valencia Provincial Council.
The project features the work of Valencian illustrators Tres Voltes Rebel, Rosa Deltoro, Ana Esmu, Marta Contel, David González and Pablo Caracol. The Occupational Centre of Xirivella has collaborated in the production of ceramics that accompany the exhibition, contributing a social and inclusive dimension to the project.
The exhibition opens on 29 October 2025, marking the first anniversary of the DANA, in the lobby of the Rectorate Building of the University of Valencia. It will then begin a tour across the university campuses.
MEDITERRANEAN: THE LAST CALL is a living, evolving exhibition that seeks to bring scientific knowledge closer to society through art and culture, reminding us that there is still time to act in the face of the great challenges of our age.
