The frenzy of Carmen de Georges Bizet shines in the suite music of the composer Rodion Shchedrin, who proposes a vertiginous, luminous and dramatic version. Shchedrin created this piece for his wife, the ballerina Maya Plissétskaia. The result is thirteen movements, orchestrated for a complete section of strings and a surprising group of 47 percussion instruments, which capture the passion and eroticism of the original Bizet.
On the other hand, the word ‘carmen’ in Latin means poetry, enchantment, magic formula, qualities shared by the main character in this ballet, which in the operatic version has a tragic final. But... What if Carmen had never died? What if at the end of her days was able to bring to memory everything she lived and offer her version of her story? These two questions are the starting point and the anchor of the Dance Group to create the show, a self production for the Nit de Sant Joan
