The Services Building provides cooling, heating, electricity and drinking water to most of the buildings on the Tarongers Campus. Cooling is provided by chillers and absorption machines with a total thermal power of 9,836 kW.
The existing chillers have reached the end of their operational life, and the distribution of chilled water to the various buildings, lecture halls and faculties is inefficient for a number of reasons. For example, there is no proper control of the flow rates to be distributed to the buildings according to their needs. This is due to the lack of a management system for the control valves at the entrance to each building. Furthermore, in many of these buildings, the primary distribution network is not decoupled from the internal network of the building itself. As a result, the pumps are drawn directly from the network, which leads to pumps being configured in series, thereby distorting their functionality.
The objective of the project is to enhance the air conditioning production facilities that supply cooling to the Tarongers Campus, taking into account all the conditioning factors outlined above.
All these measures involve the replacement of the cooling production equipment and the adaptation of auxiliary equipment, including pumping units, buffer tanks, collectors, control valves, piping, heat exchangers, water tanks, electrical lines and panels, management and control systems, etc.
