SHINE
The SHINE project (Sharing Economy and Inequalities Across Europe), as a Jean Monnet Network, has as a general objective to develop research and advanced knowledge about collaborative economy and new technologies. In particular, it wants to analyse the inequalities that these models may create in the European context. The purpose of this objective is to foster a fluent communication among multiple actors, including NGOs, public bodies, private associations, trade unions, and the academy to generate an in-depth discussion about the challenges that digitalisation poses to the legal and social framework of the European Union.
To address the challenges of platform economies and their impact in social cohesion, the following specific objectives are proposed:
- Specific objective a) Analysis of the collaborative economy impact about the values and European social rights, with special attention to equality and non-discrimination principles in the access of services and occupations.
- Specific objective b) Assessment and proposal of regulatory responses that allow to match the efficiency gains provided by the new technologies and the collaborative business models with the effective protection of the European social standards.
- Specific objective c) Analysis of the socio-economic impact of the regulatory responses that are already implemented in Europe over the collaborative economy, resolving its efficacy to mitigate social gaps.
- Specific objective d) Study of the Big Data effects, decision-making of automated decisions and the computational power about inequality, by analysing how the algorithmic biases may perpetuate exclusions in the digital market.
- Specific objective e) Assessment of the social and equity justice in sectors where platform economies are already well established, such as transport and accommodation, analysing whether current regulations guarantee a fair distribution of benefits and positions.
- Specific objective f) Dissemination of the scientific knowledge and transfer of results by the organisation of event and activities meant for new researchers, public administrators, and representatives of the civil society, with the purpose of providing information of more equitable public policies.
