Alejandro Martínez Serra

VC (79K) Chemistry graduate (University of Valencia 2019) and Master’s degree in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (University of Valencia, 2020). During his Bachelor and Master studies, he worked at the Molecular Science Institute (ICMOL) in the Supramolecular Chemistry group where he studied the coordination chemistry and the characterization of conjugated polyamines to preparate supramolecular hydrogels for biomedical applications.

Mahesh Eledath Changarath

VC (79K) Mahesh obtained his BS-MS dual degree with a major in physical sciences from Indian institute of science education and research (IISER) Berhampur, in 2022. He was a recipient of DST inspire scholarship (govt of India) during his BS- MS studies. He did his MS project at institute of physics Bhubaneswar, and the research work was based on resistive switching memories. During his undergraduate studies, he has done a short term research in the the field of organic electronics at CSIR-NIIST Thiruvananthapuram.

Dr. Marie Kreĉmarová

VC (79K) Marie Kreĉmarová studied Biomedical and clinical technology at Czech Technical University in Prague (CVUT), Czech Republic, where she obtained her Bachelor and Engineer/Master degrees. During her master study she worked at the Institute of Physics (IoP), group of Materials for Nanosystems and Biointerfaces (MNB), Prague, Czech Republic on Deposition of nano-crystalline diamond films and its material and electrical characterizations (2010-2012). She started in October 2012 Ph.D. studies at the CVUT focused on development of a sensor for optical detection of charged molecules based on nitrogen-vacancy quantum emitter charge state in diamond combined with microfluidic electrochemical system. She continued work as a Ph.D. researcher at the IoP group of MNB on Plasma-enhanced chemical vapour deposition (PECVD) of diamond thin films and its material and electrical characterizations (2012-2016). Within the Erasmus program she continued her studies at the Institute for Materials Research, Photonics and Quantum Lab, Hasselt, Belgium between 2015 and 2016 to construct the sensor (thin film PECVD and physical vapour deposition (PVD), photolithography, confocal microscopy, electrochemistry). She defended the Ph.D. in June 2018. Currently as a Junior Postdoc, she is working on fabrication of 2D quantum emitters for scalable on-chip quantum photonic hybrid microsystems devices within the international project Scalable Two-Dimensional Quantum Integrated Photonics at the Institute of Materials Science of the University of Valencia.

Dr. Tetiana Boichuk

VC (79K) In 2013 i received a master's degree with honors in the field of applied physics and nanomaterials at Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University (Ukraine). In 2017, after defending PhD thesis, i received the PhD degree .My scientific work related to electrochemical studies of hybrid supercapacitors with a Faraday electrode based on nanoscale spinel systems Li-Mn-Fe-O. I work as a postdoc with Prof. Dr. Juan P. Martínez Pastor at the Institute of Materials Science of the University of Valencia (ICMUV). My scientific interests are focused on the synthesis of nano-sized functional materials and studies of their electrochemical properties.

Dr. Archit Dhingra

VC (79K) I received my bachelor’s degree in Engineering Physics from Delhi Technological University in 2017. In May 2022, I was awarded my PhD in Physics & Astronomy from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln under the supervision of Prof. Peter A. Dowben. Currently I am working with Prof. Juan Francisco Sánchez Royo and Dr. Alejandro Molina Sánchez at the Institute of Materials Science of the University of Valencia (ICMUV). My research interests include experimental characterization of the electronic structure of two-dimensional van der Waals materials and strongly correlated oxides using various photoemission spectroscopy techniques. In particular, I am focused on understanding the physical and electronic properties of low-dimensional materials and their heterostructures for possible applications in spintronics and nano-optoelectronic devices.

Dr. Andrii Boichuk

VC (79K) I received my master’s degree in Applied Physics and Nanomaterials at Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University (Ukraine) in 2011. In 2015 i obtained my PhD degree ( Physcics and Chemistry of Solid State). My PhD work was focused on synthesis, structure, electrical and electrochemical properties of doped Lithium Manganese Spinel. In particular, i used this Materials as electrode Materials for Lithium Power Sources. Currently, i working as a postdoc with Prof. Juan Francisco Sánchez Royo at the Institute of Materials Science of the University of Valencia (ICMUV). My research work include synthesis, physical Properties (structural, electrical, optical, electrochemical) and Application of complex Oxides in Energy generation and accumulation Devices.

Dr. Alejandro Molina Sánchez

VC (79K) I am a theoretical physicist working on the simulation of the optical properties of nanostructured materials. I graduated in the University of Murcia (Spain) and I have done my PhD Thesis at the University of Valencia (Spain). After my PhD, I have worked as a postdoc in the Institute of Electronics, Microelectronics and Nanotechnology of Lille (France) and I have been Research Associate during five years at the University of Luxembourg. Currently, I have a Juan de la Cierva-Incorporación contract in the Institute of Materials Science at the University of Valencia. I have been the Principal Investigator of the project "modelling of carrier dynamics and ultra-fast spectroscopy in two-dimensional materials" and I have been a collaborator in other European projects. My expertise covers the use of first principles and empirical methods to investigate physical properties 2D materials and currently I am working on the following research topics: (i) ultra-fast dynamics of photo-generate carriers, (ii) exciton physics in 2D materials, and (iii) physics of the electron-phonon and exciton-phonon interaction and (iv) ab-initio theoretical Raman spectroscopy.

Dr. Juan Fco. Sánchez Royo

VC (79K) He is integrated in the unit of research of Optoelectronic Materials and Devices (UMDO) and is the Principal Scientist of the Lowdim unit of research and the Q-Matter lab of the Materials Science Institute (ICMUV) of the University of Valencia, Spain. He received the B.S., and Ph.D. degrees in physics from the University of Valencia in 1992 and 1998, respectively. During his PhD, he performed two research stays at the Hahn-Meitner Institute of Berlin (Germany). After a postdoctoral stay (1999-2001) at the French-Spanish beamline at the LURE Synchrotron (France), he set up a research line devoted to the electronic characterization of materials by photoemission (UPS and XPS) at the University of Valencia. Since 2002 he occupies a permanent position at the University of Valencia and became Full Professor in October 2019. During this last period, he has also performed several research stays at SOLEIL Synchrotron (France), at University of California Berkeley (USA), and at Heriot-Watt University (UK). In September 2023, he became Chair of the Department of Applied Physics and Electromagnetism of the University of Valencia. His current research interests include two-dimensional materials such as layered van der Waals semiconductors, topological insulators, graphene, and novel materials with strong Rashba effects; paying particular attention to the electronic properties of low-dimensional materials and related devices for their applications in optoelectronics, spintronics, and energy conversion.

VC (79K) Physics graduate (University of Valencia, 2011) and Master Degree in Advanced Physics in the speciality of Photonics (University of Valencia, 2012). He pursued his PhD degree in materials science supported by a grant (UV-INV-PREDOC13-110538) under the program Atracció de Talent, VLC-CAMPUS of the University of Valencia. His work for PhD thesis focused on the fabrication and characterization of low-dimensional materials and their applications in optoelectronic devices. He presented his PhD work in July 2017, which was given an Extraordinary Doctorate Award by the University of Valencia (for the 2017-18 academic year). Currently, he is performing a Post-doc stay at the Heriot-Watt University within the group of Prof. Brian D. Gerardot.

Dr. Daniel Andrés Penares

VC (79K) Physics graduate (University of Valencia, 2014) and Master Degree in Advanced Physics in the speciality of Photonics (University of Valencia, 2015) with a work devoted to the study of the Optical Properties and Reliability of the Optical Contrast Method for the identification of GaSe Nanoflakes on SiO2/Si Substrates. Current work for PhD thesis focused on the fabrication and characterization of two-dimensional semiconductors and their applications in optoelectronic devices. He presented his PhD work in January 2020, which was given an Extraordinary Doctorate Award by the University of Valencia (for the 2021-22 academic year). Currently, he is performing a Post-doc stay at the Heriot-Watt University within the group of Prof. Brian D. Gerardot.

Dr. Rodolfo Enrique Canet Albiach

VC (79K) Physics graduate (University of Valencia, 2017) with a Master Degree in Advanced Physics in the speciality of Photonics (University of Valencia, 2018). He developed his PhD in the field of the fabrication and characterization of two-dimensional materials and related heterostructures, with a work entitled Investigation of several two-dimensional semiconductors for future quantum photonics, presented in December 2022. Currently, he is contracted as a junior researcher under the supervision of Prof. Juan P. Martínez Pastor.
