The Master’s Degree in Environmental Pollution and Ecotoxicology offered by the Universitat de València has its origins, partly, in the former Doctoral Programme in Environmental Pollution, in the postgraduate Master’s Degree Environmental Health (replaced in 2008) and the Master’s Degree in Pollution, Toxicology and Environmental Health. In addition, the Master’s Degree in Environmental Pollution and Toxicology was created in response of the continuous demand that for more than twenty-five years has had the UV’s specific Master’s Degree in Environmental Health which has had 13 consecutive editions (1996-2006) and more than 200 alumni and the official Master’s Degree in Pollution, Toxicology and Environmental Health (CTSA) with its 11 consecutive editions.
On the other hand, there are current issues that demand R&D&I in the field of Environmental Pollution and Ecotoxicology:
- Risk Assessment for the environment and human health (European Union Regulations: REACH of chemicals, BPR for biocidal, CLP for chemical classification).
- Ecosystem health monitoring programmes (Water Framework Directive 2000/60/EC, the Habitats Directive 92/43/EEC).
- Legislation on soil protection and pollution (Law 22/2011 and RD 9/2005)
- Legislation on water pollution
- Sustainability
- Environmental administration and management
- Technology and R&D centres
The proposed Master’s Degree in Environmental Pollution and Ecotoxicology features an unbeatable situation as a result of:
- The existence of indicators of social interest that have resulted in the incorporation of courses similar to the one proposed in this Degree within the academic offerings of international prestigious Universities.
- The growing need for researchers in this field, both in technology centres and in business and administration.
- The interest of this research area in the scientific community, with journals whose impact rate rises significantly year after year.
- The existence of research groups in this field both in Universities and in Spanish research centres, which means an important critical mass of researchers.
- The collaboration with the Iberoamerican Society of Environmental Pollution and Toxicology (SICTA) that guarantees both the teaching quality and the mobility of Spanish, Portuguese and Iberoamerican students within the Master’s Degree.
- The high scientific level and research reputation of the professors involved in this Master's Degree.
