The current Master's Degree in “Environmental Pollution and Ecotoxicology” offered by the University of Valencia has its origins, in part, in: the Doctoral Program in “Environmental Pollution” (now discontinued), the postgraduate degree “Master's in Environmental Health” (completed in 2008), and the Master's Degree in Environmental Pollution, Toxicology, and Health (completed in 2025).
In addition, the Master's Degree in Environmental Pollution and Ecotoxicology was created in response to the demand that has existed for more than twenty-five years for the University of Valencia's own Master's Degree in Environmental Health, with 11 consecutive editions (1996-2006) and more than 200 graduates, and the official degree “Master's Degree in Environmental Pollution, Toxicology and Health (CTSA)” with 16 consecutive editions (2009-25).
On the other hand, there are current issues that require specialists in R&D&I in the field of Environmental Pollution and Ecotoxicology:
- Risk Assessment for the environment and human health (European Union Regulations: REACH of chemicals, BPR for biocidal, CLP for chemical classification).
- Ecosystem health monitoring programmes (Water Framework Directive 2000/60/EC, the Habitats Directive 92/43/EEC).
- Legislation on soil protection and pollution (Law 22/2011 and RD 9/2005)
- Legislation on water pollution
- Sustainability
- Environmental administration and management
- Technology and R&D centres
The proposed Master’s Degree in Environmental Pollution and Ecotoxicology features an unbeatable situation as a result of:
